Village Hall news – July 2010

CEILIDH NIGHT – MRS TREVOR’S DEEP FREEZE SECRETS.
This event (see separate advert) is on Monday 2 August, a ceilidh night for all the family. The group (they promise to explain what the name means – until very recently they were known as “Run of the Mill”) are from Cambridge and have established a keen reputation on the folk and Celtic music scene.

They approached us right out of the blue and offered to do a session here in Threlkeld in aid of our Village Hall revitalisation scheme as part of a “northern tour” they are undertaking. So put the date in your diaries and give them a great level of local support. Encourage any visitors to go as well. It is really good that people who have nothing to do with the village are prepared to provide this kind of support.

VILLAGE HALL TEAS
The Village Hall Teas ran successfully at the May Bank Holiday weekend, and now starts to run on all weekends through July and August. A really extensive team of people is helping out, but a few more volunteers would be welcomed to join the rota of servers and/or do some baking – contact Pat Knifton (79448) or Jane Roberts (79359) if you would like to help. And why not join the increasing numbers of villagers who are taking advantage of this service on our doorstep.

SURVEY OF WALKERS AND CYCLISTS
You may have noticed people sitting outside the Village Hall with a clipboard. We have embarked on a programme of getting accurate information on walkers and cyclists passing through the village. This is in support of the detailed business plans we have had to submit in connection with revitalisation scheme funding applications. The programme will continue on selected days from now on. Thanks to those who have helped so far – Jo Alberti, Pam Bowell, Jean Horne, Steven Oldfield, Jane Roberts, Trevor Roberts. This is an easy way for anyone to assist with the revitalisation effort – if you can spare a couple of hours every so often to do this, telephone Jane Roberts on 79359.

FUNDING FOR THE REVITALISATION SCHEME
Detailed discussions continue about the main funding required to undertake the scheme as planned. These are proceeding satisfactorily, although there is still a great deal hanging in the balance and we are a long way from getting a go ahead. External consultants asked to assess the plans on behalf of a large potential funder have produced a very positive report. We are being subject now to an in depth assessment of the financial assumptions which underpin the whole project.

DETAILED PLANS
The architects and other professionals have just started working on the next stage of detailed design. This will allow the project to start reasonably quickly when we do get a funding package in place.

USING THE VILLAGE HALL
We are getting a lot of people using the Village Hall but more users are always welcome. If you want to hire it for a meeting, a private function etc, please contact Sylvia Tuer on 017687 79729.

FLOWERS
Thanks to Jane Roberts for providing the summer flowers in the window boxes and to Sue and Andy Judge for watering them.
