The new Treasurer is Neil Beresford. He will be involved in all Committee meetings, but is not a member of the Committee or a trustee.

REPAIRS AND REDECORATIONS

The Management Committee takes its responsibilities to maintain the Hall seriously. It has to balance outlay on what is needed against the prospects of a major revitalisation. It has recently decided to go ahead in the New Year with redecoration of the gents toilets, rear lobby and front entrance area. Some other suggested repairs/improvements have been postponed until the outcome of the Big Lottery application is known.

REVITALISATION SCHEME – BIG LOTTERY APPLICATION

We have been in extensive discussions with the Big Lottery assessors regarding our detailed application under Stage 2 of the Reaching Communities – Buildings programme. We have had to provide some additional detail the assessors required. Generally the discussions were positive, so we remain optimistic about our prospects.

Even if we get the Big Lottery grant, we still have a big funding gap to fill. We have already sent off applications to other larger scale funders. But we still need to raise about another £10,000 locally to add to the roughly £40,000 we have in our “kitty”. So please rally round and support Dot Benson and the local fundraising team in all their efforts – it really is making an impact.

CHRISTMAS PRESENTS

There are several options for Christmas presents which benefit the Village Hall revitalisation fund:

* Threlkeld Recipe Books– two editions, £3.50 each (Pat Knifton 79448)

* Threlkeld Mugs - £5 each - and a few Threlkeld T-shirts - £10 (Steven Oldfield 79950).

* The Threlkeld Calendar 2012 – £10. These have been going very fast recently, and we almost ran out of stock in November – but we now have a new supply, so please get moving and buy one. It is an ideal Christmas gift, with some really beautiful photographs by David Inch and Barbara Lowesmith (who has produced the calendar on our behalf). We are also selling board envelopes (£1) if you want to post the calendar to someone.  Telephone Steven Oldfield (79950) or Sarah Rose (79343) or Dot Benson (79256) to buy these. They are also on sale at the Post Office and newspaper shop.

* Threlkeld Notecards - two sets of 6 beautiful note cards and envelopes, one featuring local views, the other featuring close-up textures of rocks, plants, etc. These could make an interesting alternative to traditional Christmas cards. £5 per set.  Telephone Steven Oldfield (79950), Barbara Lowesmith (79045) or Dot Benson (79256). Or via the Post Office.

Details of all these products are on the Threlkeld Community Website http://www.threlkeldweb.co.uk/taxonomy/term/23.

CHRISTMAS SUPPER DANCE Saturday 10 December 2011

This fundraising event is advertised separately. It looks like being a great event, with good food, traditional dancing and a festive atmosphere. Don’t miss out – have good night and support our cause. Tickets (only £7) available in advance from Dot Benson (79256).

KENDAL MAIL VOICE CHOIR Saturday 14 April 2012

We have arranged a concert by the well known Kendal Male Voice Choir. Book the date and wait for details (Dot Benson, 79256)

EASY FUND RAISING SCHEME

There is a separate advert for this scheme. We need more people to join it, and also those who are in it to use it more. It costs you nothing, is easy to operate, and can generate a great deal of money for the Village Hall fund. If you need

any help in signing up contact Adrian Eddleston (79207). If you are buying anything at all online, at Christmas or any other time, it makes sense to do it via this scheme and raise money effortlessly.

HIGHLIGHTS

Circus Berzercus presented their show “Funny Business” on 27 October, to over 70 people – adults and children of all ages. Juggling, monocycling, jokes and music kept people well entertained. A great family show, provided by the Highlights Rural Touring Scheme. Thanks to Moira Surinagar, our new Highlights coordinator, for organising this – and to Dot Benson, Sarah Rose and Sandra Hewitson for catering and general help.

Moira is arranging another Highlights event in the Spring – watch out for details.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR

There are lots of events in the Village Hall during the Christmas period – make the most of them.

We hope everyone in Threlkeld has an enjoyable Christmas and a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.
