Children in Need
Threlkeld Primary School recently raised £111.55 for Children In Need. A fashion show was arranged for the children to show off their latest fashions. Parents were invited to watch while the children strutted their stuff on the catwalk.

Christmas Concerts
The children are preparing for their Christmas Concert which will be held in St Mary’s on December 17th and 18th. People from the village are welcome to attend the afternoon performance which starts at 1.30 pm on the 17th December.

News from the School - October 2007

Earth Week at Threlkeld School

Threlkeld School enjoyed an Earth Education Week in October, which was rounded off by their Harvest Festival celebration in church.

The week began with all the children taking part in Earth Education activities at near by Kiln Howe. Later in the week they took part in various other activities such as making homemade soup “Anglo – Saxon” style, making a seat and a giant man out of woven willow, and discovering how the five senses are used to explore their environment.

Visit to the Pencil Museum

Threlkeld Primary School enjoyed a visit early in the term to Keswick Pencil Museum. Helen Strachan, the school’s Dining Room Assistant, is holding an exhibition of her pencil/charcoal pictures and the children wanted to see her work, and will follow up the visit in school by showing the children some of her techniques for them to try out.

IMPROVEMENT WORK TO FRONTAGE OF SCHOOL

We have finally raised funds to rebuild the front wall and railings of the school, which have been falling into disrepair in the last few years. The work will take place over the summer holidays and will be finished for the new term.

Thank you to all who have used the recycling centre at school over the year. The school received the following recycling credits for 2006/2007:

Trip to Maryport Aquarium and Allonby Beach

As part of their topic on the seaside the children in Reception and Year 1 enjoyed a day trip to Maryport Aquarium and Allonby Beach.

The children enjoyed a tour of the aquarium, fun in the play area and an afternoon digging on the beach.

Keswick to Penrith Milestone Restoration Project

Some of the staff and children attended a small celebration with the Milestone Society when they placed the last plaque on the new milestone at the west end of the village. The children were told about the history of the milestones and then joined other guests for refreshments in the village hall.

Trip to Rheged

Roman Wall Trip

The children enjoyed a trip to the Roman Wall. Year 2 and 3 visited the Roman Fort and Vindolanda and Year 4 / 5 and 6 visited Birdoswald and took part in a Roman jewellery workshop.
