Earth Week at Threlkeld School

Threlkeld School enjoyed an Earth Education Week in October, which was rounded off by their Harvest Festival celebration in church.

The week began with all the children taking part in Earth Education activities at near by Kiln Howe. Later in the week they took part in various other activities such as making homemade soup “Anglo – Saxon” style, making a seat and a giant man out of woven willow, and discovering how the five senses are used to explore their environment.

They thought about protecting the environment and the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling. All children have taken part in creating an outdoor wall hanging which has been made by weaving old plastic bags.

Before the Harvest Festival service at St Mary’s Church on Friday, parents were invited to join in with more Earth Education activities.

Trip to Eden Camp

As part of their History studies year 5 and 6 children visited the Eden Camp at Malton in North Yorkshire on Monday 1st October.

Eden Camp is an old war camp, turned into a WW2 museum. The children were in groups and wandered through the 24 huts experiencing all sight, touch and smell. One of the favourite huts was where they had lunch. It displayed a Human Torpedo, the pupils thought it was amazing! One of the other favourites was the escape hut because they all enjoyed watching the man sliding along the tunnels. After they had looked at all the huts they set off home. It was a long journey but it was worth it.
