News from the School - July 2007
We have finally raised funds to rebuild the front wall and railings of the school, which have been falling into disrepair in the last few years. The work will take place over the summer holidays and will be finished for the new term.
We are having a ramp made instead of steps to allow easy pushchair and disabled access into school. The building contractors have assured us that there will be little disruption to traffic passing school. There may be an occasional day when Stop/Go signs will be used while they dig out the foundations for the new wall.
We would like to apologise to those people living near the school for any unexpected inconveniences that there may be while the work is being completed.
THRELKELD SCHOOL Residential Trip to Gillerthwaite
On Tuesday we drove to Buttermere and split in to three groups: one with Mrs Horder, one with Ivan and one with Scott (who is a National Park Ranger). Then we walked over Scarth Gap which was quite hard because it was windy. We had lunch at Black Sail Youth Hostel.
At about 4 o’clock we arrived at Gillerthwaite and we got the dorms sorted. The boys in the 14 beds dorm the girls split between the 10 beds dorm and the 8 beds dorm.
On Wednesday one group went canoeing and pond dipping while the other two groups walked up to the FoxTrap which is a circular wall the top over hanging so a fox can’t climb out.
On Thursday the group that went canoeing and pond dipping on Wednesday walked up to the fox trap and on the way they saw a fox and the other group went canoeing and pond dipping.
In the morning on Friday we went orienteering around the grounds, and in the afternoon we went to the Maritime Festival in Whitehaven.
Everybody had a great time and were reluctant to go home.
