Visit to the Pencil Museum
Threlkeld Primary School enjoyed a visit early in the term to Keswick Pencil Museum. Helen Strachan, the school’s Dining Room Assistant, is holding an exhibition of her pencil/charcoal pictures and the children wanted to see her work, and will follow up the visit in school by showing the children some of her techniques for them to try out.
The school also enjoyed looking round the museum (the world’s largest pencil is always popular). The older children were interested to find out about the War Drawing Pencils, which hid secret escape maps, as they have begun a history topic on World War 2.
As an added bonus, the children also had a session with a professional cartoonist, who gave them hints on drawing cartoon characters.
Improvement work to frontage of school
We apologise for the length of time there has been disruption outside the school
due to the rebuilding of the school wall and replacement of the railings. As
is often the case, the work was not completed for the beginning of term as expected.
There was a delay in the delivery of the railings and there were problems with
parts of the stonework. We are still waiting for some parts to be rebuilt, to
the architect’s satisfaction.
