The village hall is one of the main pillars of community life in Threlkeld. It was originally built in 1901, financed by public subscription, on land donated to the village by a local benefactor. It has served the village well for over 100 years.
Now the time has come to bring it bang up to date, not by a complete rebuilding, but via a comprehensive revitalisation of the existing one (which local people are very attached to). More details of what is planned can be found here.
This scheme will cost a lot of money. The village will be applying for major institutional grants to finance the work, and the scheme will depend on these to go ahead. However, the local community itself is committed to raising £15000 (this is in addition to the many “normal” village fundraising efforts).
We are now open for donations of any kind, from individuals or organisations, anywhere in the world. All donations will be acknowledged of course, and eventually we will establish a full list of benefactors to be on display in the revitalised village hall. This is maybe an opportunity for anyone who knows Threlkeld or who has visited us in the past to establish a link with the village in a very tangible way.
Cheques should be made payable to “Threlkeld Village Hall Revitalisation Fund” and sent to Alison Critchlow, Towngate Barn, Blease Road, Threlkeld, Keswick, Cumbria CA12 4RX. Any other queries to Trevor Roberts, Garden Cottage, Threlkeld, Keswick, Cumbria CA12 4SQ
