Village Hall progress report - June 2008

Funding applications
We understand from County Councillor Bert Richardson we have been awarded £1000 by the Cumbria Neighbourhood Forum (Cumbria County Council) – this is to finance the continuing work on developing the scheme for the Village Hall (professional fees, planning application fees etc).

Keswick Lions have kindly offered us a grant of £1500 for the scheme when needed.

We are still awaiting news on some other smaller scale funding applications to finance ongoing work and also to pay for portable staging.

However, the main news is that we have now started the process of submitting bids for large scale funding for the full scheme. These bids have to be supported by extensive information, and we may well even be visited by organisations concerned at some stage.

Fund raising
As usual a separate report is given on progress with the Village Hall Revitalisation Fund. The Folk and Blues Night was a big social as well as a financial success and we would hope to repeat this event next year. Thanks to all who organised and supported this.

The next major event will be the Threlkeld Extravaganza on 2 August.

Village Hall car park
Thanks to Graham Wilson for putting down the gravel to fill the potholes in the car park. This is much appreciated.

Ongoing maintenance of the Village Hall
The ongoing maintenance of the Village Hall, largely handled by Roger Bragg and Trevor Robson, is an important necessity. We are constantly having to make hard decisions about expenditure here, but the Committee has no intention of letting the Hall go downhill just because we hope to have a major revitalisation before long.

More voluntary help needed
We are still looking for more voluntary help in some specialist areas. Is there anyone in the village who has:
· project management skills/experience
· accountancy, business management and marketing skills/experience
· experience of running a cafe or similar
· experience of making large scale funding bids.
