News from the Parish Council - October 2012
The following items were discussed:
Cumbria in Bloom
~ Threlkeld did very well again in Cumbria in Bloom, getting 2 runner up awards, in the ‘Large Village’ and ‘Landscape Gardening’ categories.
New Parish Councillor
~ There were 3 applicants for the Parish Councillor Vacancy. A vote took place to decide on the New Parish Councillor, and the person has been contacted to see if they wish to take up the post.
Gates at Guardhouse
~ The Parish Council applied for a grant for the repair / replacement of these gates, but as the Parish Council are not that land owner the grant application has been declined. The Parish Council are now looking for alternative methods to get these repaired, and have been in touch with the highways department to see if they can assist.
Plastic Skip & Garden Waste Skip
~ These skips need to be repositioned within the village before the end of November due to the village hall works.
~ The garden waste skip is timetabled not to continue after September as the current contractor is not continuing with the service. The Clerk is in contact with Cllr David Huxley (EDC) and other contractors to see if this is a service which can be maintained.
Footway / Streetlights
~ If there are any footway / streetlights in the village which need attention please let the Parish Council Clerk know, and we will report them and let Cllr David Huxley (EDC) know.
Beneath Blencathra – December Edition
~ To ensure that village events held at the beginning of December are included in the December edition is was decided to postpone the publishing of this edition by 2 weeks. Lizzie will be publishing the dates for this in ‘Editor’s News’.
Notice Board
~ The Parish Council are looking into erecting an additional notice board in the village, and are awaiting confirmation regarding planning permission about this.
The Parish Council would like to remind everyone that these are open meetings, and any member of the public can attend, either to discuss something specific, or just to come along and see what happens at these meetings.The meetings are normally on the 2nd last Tuesday of the month, with the exception of August/December, at 7.30pm in the small room of the Village Hall.Agendas are displayed in the Post Office, and the Notice Board at the Village Hall (to the right of the door), towards the end of the week before the meetings, if there is anything which interests you on the agenda, please feel free to come along.
The next Parish Council meeting is Tuesday 23rd October 2012, at 7.30pm.
