News from Threlkeld Cricket Club - July 2010

The beginning of July sees Threlkeld’s midweek team topping the league and the Saturday team lying in third place just two points behind Penrith Wanderers.
On Satuday 25th June Threlkeld played Penrith V at Penrith and put in an excellent performance. Skippered by vice-captain Richard Bannister Threlkeld batted first.
After the early dismissal of Ben Jefferson, Michael Metcalfe and Richard Bannister put together a record partnership of 251 beating the previous one of 236 between Tom Hutton and Stephen Harrogate in 2003. As luck would have it Tom was in the field on Saturday to witness the event. Michael Metcalfe scored his maiden century for Threlkeld scoring 114 and Richard Bannister 147. Threlkeld declared on 347 after 35 overs. A very young Penrith side were bowled out for 116 after 23 overs. A fine win.
Keith Cretchley returns to South Africa at the beginning of July and on Monday evening hosted a traditional South African Braai as a farewell. It certainly put our barbeques to shame!!
The sun has shone on our county and district games and on Wednesday 23rd June we were treated to an Australian Academy touring side who played some excellent cricket. A 12 year old named Nathan Stubbings scored a century and is certainly one to watch for the future.
The juniors continue to train and play with as much enthusiasm as ever, Katie Hewitson was called up to play an u15 County match adding to our growing list of county players, congratulations to Katie.
Following a run of away games Threlkeld has a glut of home matches in July and if the sun continues to shine we should see some fine cricket.
