News from the Parish Council - October 2011

The following items were discussed:

Water Running onto the road at Grassgarth

The Parish Council have contacted Cumbria Highways regarding the water running on to the road at Grassgarth.  A site meeting was held between the Parish Council, Highways Authority and the landowners.  The Highways will be taking stapes to rectify these issues, hopefully before the weather worsens.

Neighbourhood Watch

Stuart Creswell joined us to discuss this issue.  It was decided that it would be beneficial for the village to become active in the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme again; it has many benefits to the village.  To enable the scheme to run there would need to be 3 or 4 volunteers to participate.  If there are any villagers who would be willing to help with this, please contact Stuart Creswell.

Kiln Howe Lottery Grant

The Parish Council have received a conditional grant offer for the for the footpath works at Kiln Howe.  The Parish Council should hopefully know if we have been successful in this in the next few weeks.

Street Lighting in Threlkeld

There appear to be missing street lights!  When the works to replace the wooden electric poles took place the lights were not replaced upon completion of the works.  This has now been reported and these lights should be replaced soon.

Cumbria in Bloom

Threlkeld won a Silver Gilt Medal Award for the Cumbria in Bloom Pride in your community 2011.  Threlkeld also won an “It’s your Neighbourhood Award” of Level 5, Outstanding, from the Royal Horticultural Society.  A summary of the judge’s comments can be seen in a separate article.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the planting and maintaining of the boxes, the war memorial, and to all residents who have helped in any way.
