It's not the winning that matters, it's the taking part. Whoever said that has obviously never played sport!

This match, as ever, was played in admirable spirit. Initially at the request of the visitors, the teams comprised 12 members split into 4 x 3 person units (instead of the usual 4 x 4 person units). As it happened, on the night the visitors had sufficient players and we were one short. Out of the eight games played, the visitors won four, we won three and one was drawn. The overall difference was that two of our wins were by high margins. Outstanding performances were put in by my wife, Kathleen, and Jean, who dragged herself to the match despite illness and still being in the process of recovering from a broken wrist (of the non-bowling arm). Thanks again, mainly to the ladies, for a very fine supper.
