Visitor numbers to the Centre

It would be naïve for me to expect that everyone in the village is happy with the number of visitors we receive at the Blencathra Centre, particularly because of the traffic on Blease Road. However, please let me assure everyone that we do our best to minimise journeys by our groups and always try to avoid the school drop off and pick up times when we can. To this effect I have reinforced this message in our covering letter to schools and universities:

The journey to the Centre through Threlkeld along Blease Road is a narrow route for coaches. There are passing places and ample turn around space at the Centre. However, if possible it is better to avoid 8.30am-9.30am and 2.30pm –3.30pm as this coincides with the primary school pick up and drop off.

I would hope that the majority within Threlkeld view the centre as an educational asset .We have a national reputation and are used by some of the leading schools and universities in the country – the very children who in the future will be making decisions about Threlkeld in 2040! We employ 25 staff and the LDNP 17 –all tax payers and alongside our expenditure make a very large contribution to the local and regional economy.

If anyone is interested in what we do ..drop in and see me (or my staff) in the summer or join in one of our activity/open days in September/October.
